To those of you who have unwittingly stumbled upon this site much as a child unearths next year's Christmas presents prematurely, gleeful thoughts of elation, disappointment, and panic gripping his tiny heart summarily as he realizes he can tell no one of his discovery, the "forbidden fruit" already pinched between his drenched and juice-covered fingers, I shall attempt to briefly set the tone and course of this blog.
As the title may lead you to believe, please distrust these notions. The subjects of goats, babies, and bathwater will be only occasionally albeit flagrantly referenced among the posts to come. As I have little interest in all three, this will be to the readers benefit. The topics that will be discussed will be numerous and best summarized as things that interest me. But, as I expect this far to grand a proposal by which to formalize a readership of more than one, let me state the following.
The study of philosophy is near and dear to my heart. I am an avid outdoorsman always finding a spirit of adventure in even the most mundane of circumstances. I have a love for the short, pithy, and to the point, and I believe that common sense should govern the other five. To this end, whether I post anything from philosophical ramblings to personal anecdotes, I will endeavor to waste few words and cast a humorous light if the topic merits. In short, my desire is that you should be both entertained and provoked to think.
Forgive my spelling errors in advance. My hope is that when they do occur, they will tickle your imagination to reveal some unintended pun or perhaps a dirty joke.
A last note about the title. If you have seen the movie Babies, then you may recollect the scene to which I refer. I however have not seen it, but have only heard of it secondhand though I pretend to know it with familiarity. (This will be a noteworthy mark that will plague many of the posts to come.) Suffice it to say there is a scene in the movie (which, as the title suggests, follows the initial stages of life of four babies each from a different country and culture from around the globe) in which one the the babies is left to bathe itself in a trough at which point a goat wanders up and begins drinking from it resulting in needy cries from the baby. My point in naming the blog thusly (beyond that of having an unforgettable web address) is to be a metaphor for the blog's motto. Simply put, it means pay attention.
